    The study of English relative clauses before the eighties has been focused on the syntactic and semantic aspects of English relative clauses. In one of the most influential works discussing relative clauses in the language universal literature, Keenan and Comrie (1977) consider any syntactic construction to be a relative clause if it specifies a set of objects: a larger set of objects serving as the domain of relativization is restricted by a syntactic construction. This kind of syntactic constructions is so-called relative clauses. According to Keenan and Comrie, the main function of English restrictive relatives is to delimit the domain of head NPs. Likewise, several researchers claim that restrictive relative clauses, as the post-modifier of noun phrases, are mainly used to delimit the domain of their head nouns.
