As a kind of information system, language is very special to human society. The communication with language, the transmitting and receiving of information appears only in particular circumstance and are affected by them. So context plays a very important role for a translator to understand the texts and it also helps the reader to interpret the meaning. The famous translation theorist, Peter Newman, has said in his famous book Approaches to Translation (1982:113) that "...Context is the overriding factor in all translation, and has primacy over any rule, theory, or primary meaning." In the field of modern linguistics, context occupies an important position. However, most of them have only studied a certain problem or aspect that influence context.
我们知道,在社会活动中,翻译工作是一项复杂的语言。它关注的字对字的翻译。 “翻译是一种交际的进展发生在社会环境中的表现形式。”(哈蒂姆梅森2001,3)
As we know, translation is a sophisticated language in social activity. It cares nothing about the word-to-word translation. "Translation is a communicative progress which takes place with in a social context."(Hatim & Mason 2001,3)
According to common sense, language communication must fit in language situations. In order to translate the source language to target language at the same time changes nothing on the content, translators are inevitably working under great pressure. So translators have to possess a hard will and insist on what we work on. We are the main subject, and we judge the environment of source language. And the translator as the role a reader will think about the ways to construct the meaning of source text. And the translator operates in a quite different social and cultural environment, attempting to use his interpretation to reflect the meaning of the source text.
Text is the target in translation, means that text is a series of signal that transmit from a sender to a receiver as a code and then the receiver decodes it into an easy way to understand. And how is context to be defined? Although many scholars have their own definition of context, they simply just show the surface meaning according to different aspects. "Context involves the relevant elements of the surrounding linguistic or non-linguistic structures in relation to an uttered expression under consideration. The expression is normally a unit corresponding to a sentence, but can also be a word or a global discourse unit." (Asher 1994:731) So if we want to grasp the real meaning and function of a t
