Chapter 1 Introduction


1.1 Background of the Research
今天,随着经济全球化的发展,中国在教育与外界的政治,经济和文化等领域的交流也日益频繁。从认识到技术已经改变了社会对高职院校学生的就业要求。高职英语教学应紧跟时代潮流的发展,技术过硬的人才。东亚大的程度上,英语口语交流的能力是非常重要的一部分,在学生的动手能力。教师应重视提高学生的英语口语能力。然而,这不是一件容易的事,以提高自己的英语口语能力。虽然许多高校开设的英语听力和口语,提高学生的英语口语是不太多,这会导致许多问题。正如我们所知道的,在高职院校英语口语教学为主的输出能力,英语口语,这有助于学生通过读出和听力,学习英语。Today, with the development of economic globalization, China’s communication in thefields such as politics, economy and cultural education with the outside world has becomeincreasingly frequent. One of the employment requirements in the society for vocationalcollege students has changed from knowledge to technology. Higher vocational Englishteaching should closely follow the trend of the times to the development of skillful talents. Toa large extent, the ability of oral English communication is a very essential part in the abilitiesof students. Teachers should attach importance to the enhancing of students’ oral Englishability.However, it is not an easy task to improve one’s oral English ability. Although manycolleges and universities offer courses in English listening and speaking, their students’improvement in oral English is not too much, and this results in many problems. As we know,the oral English teaching in vocational colleges mainly focuses on the output ability of oralEnglish, which helps students, learn English through readout and listening. 传统的结构法和交际法在英语口语教学有一定的局限性,第一个语法规则过于集中,忽略了语言作为沟通的一种手段,这将导致聋哑英语;后者过于强调语言功能,强调语言的使用,而忽视语法,从而影响表达的准确性大大。同时,作为高职院校的学生往往有糟糕的英语技能,他们的词汇和句型的积累是有限的,输入编码不足,难度增大,这是很难为他们打开他们的嘴说话。所有这些都成为提高高职院校学生在英语口语瓶颈,加上他们没有多少积累的词块。The traditionalstructural approach and communicative approach in oral English teaching have certainlimitations that the first one focuses too much on grammar rules and ignores the language as ameans of communication, and this causes Dumb English; and the latter one attaches too muchimportance to language function, emphasizing the usage of language, and neglecting thegrammar, thus affects accuracy of expression greatly. Meanwhile, as vocational collegestudents’ tend to have poor English skill and their vocabulary and sentence patternaccumulation are limited, with insufficient input coding, the difficulty increases, and it is hardfor them to open their mouth and speak. And all these become bottleneck for theimprovement of vocational college students in English speaking, plus that they do not havemuch accumulation of lexical chunks.
With rapid development of corpus linguistics, the status and role of linguistics in foreignlanguage acquisition has gradually become focuses. To simply put it, a lexical chunk is astring terms or a unit of meaning, continuous or discontinuous, which is stored in the memory and used for direct application without grammar generation and analysis. The lexical chunk’sgrammar and semantics have fixed grammatical structural restriction, stable collectivemeaning and specific pragmatic contexts, which is similar to semi-finished product, whichcan be stored and facilitate language complexity and accuracy. But the action research oflexical chunk output is speculative and the theoretical exploration and research mainlyconcentrate on lexical chunk features and its importance in language learning.
