摘要:This way, the present study might be of significance to formulating afeasible formative assessment theory and very likely shed light on how to practiceformative assessment in real-time teaching situations and on how to improve highschool oral English teaching.
Chapter 4 Results and Discussion
4.1 Results
The questionnaire contains questions about the students’ needs and problems inoral English study. According to the detail analysis of the problems, the teacher canformulate the aims and plans of oral English teaching and arrange the teachingcontents accordingly.The results from the questionnaire were carefully studied and analyzed in order tounderstand the present situation of high school students’ oral English study. It isessential to analyze the questionnaire because the results of the questionnaire can beused to determine the learning goals and contents of oral English teaching. Thefollowing table shows the analysis results of the questionnaire: According to the above table, Question 1 shows that only 10% students think thattheir oral English is excellent, which means that very few students are confident oftheir spoken English. Question2 shows that only 11% students practice oral Englishbecause of their interest in learning English. 40% students practice oral English justbecause they are required of doing so by the subject requirements or tests and 49%students practice oral English for the preparation of future job. Thus, it can beconcluded that most of the students practice oral English due to instrumentalmotivation, only a few students due to their interest.

Conclusion
Formative assessment emphasizes learners’ needs, study process, study goals andstudents’ initiative in study. Feedback in formative assessment is useful to provideinformation to guide teaching and learning. From the literature review and the study,it can be seen that formative assessment exerts a positive effect on oral Englishteaching and learning. Appropriate implementation of formative assessment canimprove students’ oral English ability considerably.In light of the study results, the author draws some major findings and putsforward some suggestions for language teachers in high school oral English teaching.Meanwhile, the author points out the strengths and limitations of the study. In the lastpart of the chapter, the author makes recommendations for future researches.
