摘要:In china, most English learners have few chances and needs to communicate withforeigners in English. The English teaching and learning have paid more attention toexamination rather than communication.

Chapter ⅠIntroduction


1.1 Background of the Study
With the development of the economy in the world, English has become a basicqualification of the human in the modern society. English teaching is an important constituentof the secondary vocational Education. The Curriculum Standard of English in the SecondaryVocational School in 2011 indicates that “In different fields, student’s ability in English is putforward to a different degree according to their occupation requirements, and it plays animportant role for the students of the secondary vocational school in their careerdevelopment.” Besides, it also requires that “English teaching should focus on the practiceand create conditions for students to communicate in English according to their occupationdevelopment.” Consequently, oral communicational ability has become an important skill inhunting jobs. Mellinger (Yuan, 2006) indicates that communicational ability and socialinteraction are the most important tools for achieving occupational activity, enablingemployees to learn and acquire new skills which facilitate the development of solutions toproblems. Therefore, how to improve students’ communicational ability in oral English hasbeen an emphasis for English teaching in the secondary vocational school.However, the situation of students’ oral English learning in the secondary vocationalschool is not optimistic. English teaching is time-consumed and inefficiency at present. Moststudents are still unable to communicate with others in English simply in the daily life, andthey even can’t express 26 letters correctly. Secondly, the duty of the English teaching israther heavy, for the class hours are few. It is difficult to arrange oral English as therequirement of curriculum. In addition, it is difficult to arouse the students’ enthusiasm inlearning English because of their different and irregular English foundation. All theseproblems are needed to solve in the reform of English teaching.

1.2 The Significance of the Study
In china, most English learners have few chances and needs to communicate withforeigners in English. The English teaching and learning have paid more attention toexamination rather than communication. With the development of economy, more and morepeople are aware of the importance of English for communicative purpose. However, it is thefact that the students can not open their mouth to speak English though they have learned itmore than 10 years. The truth is more obvious in the secondary vocational school becausestudents here do not have solid base in English and are lack of learning motivation. But theirability in communication in English plays an important role in their occupation careerdevelopment. Thus, to improve students’ ability in communication in English, that is to say,the oral English teaching has become more and more important in the secondary vocationalEnglish teaching.Since the formative Assessment as a new concept was proposed by Scriven in 1967, it hasbeen followed more and more. As an important component of language programs, formativeAssessment aims at improving language teaching and learning through providing teachers andlearners with immediate and effective feedback.
