1 Introduction

1.1 Research Background
As Gimson (1972) said, “To speak any language,a person must know nearly 100% of its phonetics, while only 50%-90% of its grammar and1% of the vocabulary may be sufficient." Phonetics plays an important part in foreignlanguage learning. Since each language holds its typical phonetic system in which its typicalrules of pronunciation exist and different languages have sounds that are different in not onlyquality but also quantity, foreign language learners are often confiised by huge phoneticsystem of the language during learning a foreign language. A large number of studiesconcerning about phonetics and a great amount of foreign language teaching practice showthat almost every foreign language learner tends to be influenced by the habits of nativelanguage-speaking during learning a foreign language, which may be one of obstacles for EFLlearners, leaning of native-like foreign language pronunciation. Gui Cankun (1978) haspointed out，“we have formed a series of habits of speaking the native language or the localdialect since we were children, and as a result we can use them automatically andunconsciously. When we are trying to learn a new language, a series of new habits should beformed. Since the habits of native language-speaking are fixed because of the constantpractice in daily life and the experience that can be used to adapt to the habits of a newlanguage-speaking is in lack, we tend to pronounce the new language by turning to our habitsof native language-speaking when we have a poor command of the appropriate manner andplace of pronouncing sounds in the foreign language.” Therefore, it is necessary to focus onthe influences of native language upon the learning of foreign language pronunciation duringinvestigating the learning of foreign language pronunciation.

1.2 Research Purposes and Significance
The present research aims to provide some suggestions or countermeasures for thelearning and teaching of English pronunciation in Yuxian by investigating the specificinfluences of habits of dialect-speaking upon local students, English pronunciation and byexploring causes of these influences.The significance of the research lies in:First of all, for English learners in Yuxian，they can learn about problems of their Englishpronunciation that are caused by negative influences of habits of dialect-speaking in anexplicit way and then they can take advantage of the positive transfer and try to overcome the negative transfer during the practical English training based on findings of the research.Moreover, when they can make greater progress in leaning of English pronunciationefficiently, it will facilitate them in other aspects of English learning, such as listening andvocabulary learning.Secondly, for English teachers in Yuxian, for one thing they can learn about similaritiesand differences of sound systems between Yuxian dialect and English in a systematical wayand then it is helpful for them to give a detailed contrast and comparison between these twodifferent sound systems in English classes so that students will learn the basic theoreticalknowledge well.
