摘要:委婉语是一种人类为了避免打扰他人而使用的较为礼貌或者愉快的避讳别人的一种方式,几乎所有的文化中都有一些概念或事物应当避免直接提及的,即使他们的语言就是这样一个词,这就需要用委婉语来表达。中国有着丰富悠久的文化传统,因此在中国使用委婉语的情况更加的普遍。除了日常交流意外,委婉语更广泛的运用在政治、经济和人类生活的方方面面,特别是在教育方面。

In 2006, in their paper On the Application of Euphemisms in English Teaching, Gao Huiting and Dai Chenli believe that the purpose of euphemisms teaching is to improve students’ abilities to understand and use euphemisms and then cultivate students’ cross-cultural awareness and communication ability. In 2007, He Ali wrote the paper --We Should Attach Importance to the Study and Application of Euphemisms in English Teaching—in which she talks about the functions of euphemisms to support her viewpoint that teachers should pay attention to the teaching of euphemisms in English class. In 2009, in his paper On the Application of Euphemisms in English Class, Chen Haijun has studied the using strategies and effects of euphemisms in the interaction teaching of English class. He thinks teachers should use euphemisms at any moment in order to consider students’ mental health and withstanding abilities at their best and create favorable teaching environment. In 2010, Wangjun wrote Study on Euphemisms and English Teaching in which she has introduced the reasons for coming into being, functions and application of euphemisms. Based on all of this knowledge, she puts forward her viewpoint that teachers should attach importance to teaching and using of euphemisms in English class. In 2011, Lijing wrote On the Social Functions of English Euphemisms and Their enlightenment on English Teaching. In this paper, she talks about three kinds of social functions of euphemisms and believes that teachers should strengthen the input of euphemisms from two basic elements: books and teachers.
From these articles, we can know that many researchers have made contributions in the study of English class euphemisms and these articles also reveal people’s more and more attention to euphemisms in English class and the great importance of this language phenomenon in education.
1.3 Purpose of the writing
Just as mentioned above, the study of euphemisms on any certain aspect is not enough, especially in education. In recent years, the quality of education has attracted more and more attention of the public. In the last decades, most of people think the score is the only factor which decides the quality of education. In fact, the quality of education refers to every aspect of a student even many studies indicate that the percent of mental factors keep rising year by year. This means a teacher not only needs to teach knowledge but also is concerned about the mental health of his/her students. Because most of the communication between students and teachers happen in the class, every word teacher has said may have different effect on students. If a teacher often abuses students or uses offensive words, students will not only learn the bad habit but also have psychological shadow which will have great side effect in their later life. From this aspect, the application of euphemisms in class is very necessary. At the same time, with the development of reform and opening up, English has been the second language of students in domestic. Owing to the cultural differences between western and oriental, inappropriate words which a teacher uses may offend or hurt students. Therefore, in order to avoid harm and embarrassment, English teachers have the duty to use euphemisms in class. This
