摘要:委婉语是一种人类为了避免打扰他人而使用的较为礼貌或者愉快的避讳别人的一种方式,几乎所有的文化中都有一些概念或事物应当避免直接提及的,即使他们的语言就是这样一个词,这就需要用委婉语来表达。中国有着丰富悠久的文化传统,因此在中国使用委婉语的情况更加的普遍。除了日常交流意外,委婉语更广泛的运用在政治、经济和人类生活的方方面面,特别是在教育方面。

5.2.3 First personal pronouns
 
The use of first personal pronouns like we, ours, us, etc, can also have great effects on students. If a teacher always says to his students “you should/you must/you need”, the distance between him and his students will become more and more remote. On the contrary, if teacher uses we, ours, us more often, his students may feel very warm and comfortable, because it makes his students think that their teacher considers them as equal individuals.
 
6. Conclusion
 
From the day they came into being, euphemisms have been playing the role of social lubricator. Without them, the world will be full of conflicts and chaos. Without them, teachers and students cannot communicate harmoniously in class, especially in English class. This paper mainly talks the application of euphemisms in English class. There are four aspects in which teachers should employ euphemisms to achieve special effect: conveying greetings, giving directions, offering encouragements and making evaluations. According to the formation of euphemisms, teachers can use two ways to adopt euphemisms in English class, including phonetic ways and grammatical ways which including tense, syntactical negation and first personal pronouns. As the interaction with western world is becoming more and more frequent, euphemisms can not be ignored and need to be further studied. The application of euphemisms can help to stimulate cultural and cross-cultural awareness of students as well as building harmonious relationship between teachers and students. In order to further these advantages, Teachers should attach more importance to the application of euphemisms in English class. Besides, more studies and researches need to be made on the application of euphemisms in English class even all aspects of euphemisms.
