Diplomacy is a special kind of activity. The ministry of foreign affairs often publishesthe information in a press conference. Diplomats answered reporters’ questions, their wordsand language are quite different from daily communication words, and they represent thestandpoint of the whole country. In a word, political translation is the process that atranslator translates foreign diplomatic words into the local language or translates thediplomatic words from local language into foreign language.With the rapid development of the world and the increasing global interdependence,China’s official and private cooperation and exchange with foreign countries growscontinuously. The Foreign Office as the window of the cooperation between countriesinvolves a lot of translation and interpretation work. In order to ensure that all kinds offoreign affairs go smoothly, diplomatic translation plays a very important role. Translationis a cross-cultural communication behavior, to complete the communicative tasks needs toaware the purpose of translation. Translation scholars hold different views about thepurpose of translation. Some people believe that the purpose of translation is to introducethe different social life, culture, thoughts, and ideas to the hearers, so as to promote theprogress in cross-culture process. However, as particularity inherits in diplomatictranslation to deliver the political views and government policies, nation’s history andculture, rules and regulations and operation system. The translation purpose can be dividedinto two categories, the purpose of the text and the purpose of the translator. A perfectdiplomatic translation purpose should be the combination of both the text and thetranslator’s purpose. Diplomatic translation will be represented worldwide. The quality ofthe translation will always be the core problem; the mistaken of it would cause jokes evenundermine the image and interests of a nation. The diplomatic translation is unique to times,ethnical culture and policies.

In this thesis, the author explains diplomatic fuzziness from the view of CooperativePrinciple and its translation. Fuzziness is a prominent feature of diplomatic language;through the domestic and foreign research of fuzziness in language, we can notice theachievements and the limitations of fuzziness study. Besides the fuzzy characteristics ofdiplomatic language, the diplomatic language is closely linked to the specific politicalenvironment also in turn the fuzziness promotes the development of the politics anddiplomacy.
