摘要:本文是英语语言学论文,本文是一项实证研究,通过英语致使移动构式测试,考察了来自三个不同英语水平的 90 名中国英语学习者对英语致使移动构式的习得情况,并试图厘清中国英语学习者习得英语致使移动构式的程度与英语语言水平之间的关系,进一步确定中国英语学习者对英语致使移动构式的习得顺序。
s in the receptivetask?2) Will the Chinese EFL learners’ production of English CMC develop alongside theirgeneral English language proficiency? And do Chinese EFL learners produce the prototypicalsense of English CMC better than the non-prototypical senses in the productive task?In order to arrive at the objective of the present study, this study is mainly taken as acombination of both explanation and description, namely a syn
thesis of qualitative andquantitative. It is a qualitative study because it is explanation-oriented on the basis ofConstruction Grammar. It is quantitative because the conclusion of the study is data-analysisafter all.

Chapter 2 Literature Review
This chapter scrutinizes the literature related to the present study. In section 2.1, theconcept of caused-motion construction is defined as a start, and the semantic constraints andits classification are also visited, for they are pertinent to the present research since the focusof the study is on the acquisition of English CMC by Chinese EFL learners. Section 2.2examines previous studies on the CMC from four different linguistic approaches. In section2.3, the relevant studies on the acquisition of English CMC will be reviewed. Both theweaknesses and the inadequacy of the previous studies will serve as the point of departure forthe present study. In section 2.4, the research on the comparison between Chinese and EnglishCMC is briefly reviewed. Finally, in section 2.5, a summary of the relevant research is made, including both their strengths and their weaknesses.
2.1 Definition and Classification of English Caused-MotionConstruction
As a construction with a special argument structure, the caused-motion construction ischaracterized by a special syntactic structure and unique semantic constraints, which cannotbe compositionally derived from the lexical items (i.e., lexical constructions) whichinstantiate it. The basic or the prototypical semantics of this construction is “the causerargument directly causes the theme argument to move along a path designated by thedirectional phrase”; that is, “X causes Y to move Z” (Goldberg, 1995: 152). This constructioncan be defined structurally as follows (where V is a nonstative verb and OBL is a directionalphrase): [SUBJ [V OBJ OBL]] (Goldberg, 1995:152). It can also be presented by the formula“NP1+V+NP2+PP”. For example,In order to show that the caused-motion construction is required in grammar, it isnecessary to show that the semantic interpretations of CMC cannot be ascribed to thesemantics of its componential elements, i.e., verb, preposition or the combination of verb andpreposition. The reasons are illustrated together with the following facts.

2.2 Research on Caused-Motion Construction
As we have mentioned in the previous chapters, the study of English CMC has been ahot issue in linguistic studies. According to the related literature, we can categorize theprevious studies into four main domains. In this section, we present the brief review of theprevious researches on the caused-motion construction from the three traditional approachesand then discuss cognitive approach that this thesis concentrates.Linguists of transformational approach propose a hypothesis that the transformationshould keep internal consistency in semantics (Lakoff & Johnson, 1980; Langacker, 1987). Itassumes that all the sentences that illustrate each ot
