Chapter 1 Introduction 

1.1 The Background of The Research 
English language is an international language which is used in everyday life for communicating with other countries and different cultures, it is also used for many other purposes  such  as  business,  technology,  movies  and  other  international  media.  But unfortunately English isn’t an easy language to learn specially for those students who have  a  background  of  one  or  more  languages,  most  of  them  find  it  difficult  and confusing. According to Bashir, (2011, p 36) Language is” system of arbitrary symbols which help the people of a particular community to communicate and to interact”. So the main reason for using a language is communication and it is hard to achieve this goal  without  speaking.  Florez,  (1999,  as  cited  in  Nuan;  D  and  Bailey;  K,  2005,  P2) defines  speaking  as”  an  interactive  process  of  contracting  meaning  that  involves producing and receiving and processing information” and according to many researches speaking  is  the  most  crucial  skill  because  it  is  the  common  tool  which  is  used  to measure a language. Without prober way of speaking the person won't be understood by others  and  won’t  be  able  to  understand  them,  which  cause  a  big  hindrance  to communication. P. Ur (as cited in Oradee study 2012) mentioned that a command of speaking skill illustrate the students’ knowledge of the language. In fact EFL learners are facing a variety of problems in learning English especially speaking, and many students and teachers ignore it in language learning and teaching. When asked why speaking is  mostly ignored in our  EFL classes?

1.2 The Source of The Research Topic 
Speaking is considered as the most crucial skill around the world, it is the means of communication, through speaking we can accomplish and achieve our communications, interactions  easily  with  each  other,  however,  it  may  cause  a  lot  of  problems  and misunderstanding  if  it  was  used  in  an  inappropriate  way.  When  I  arrived  in  China  I faced a lot of difficulties in understanding their spoken English and so did the Chinese . There were many differences in the way the Chinese and I also in the strategies used by both. I even sometimes couldn’t understand some teachers while they are speaking, on the  other hand, they  often  ask  me  to  repeat  my words  in  order  to  understand. These situations made me start thinking deeply about the differences. I even started to change my way of speaking to arrive at middle way which facilitate our communication. From that moment I started to read about Chinese spoken English and the difficulties that face them in speaking .While I am reading I got many ideas, which prompt me to compare.
