A. Xu Yuanchong’s concept of beauty in meaning
In three beauties, the beauty in meaning is in the first place, then is the beauty in sound and the last one is the beauty in form.1 Beauty in meaning is the foundation: the English translation should be the reappearance of the original work and can have its own energy source.2 In content, the version should avoid mistranslation, missing translation and so on. The English translation should convey the meaning of the original text faithfully. The key point is that the translator should understand the original work well. That is to say, the translator should understand the original text properly and be close to the understanding of the author.3 It is difficult for the translators not only to translate faithfully but also to reproduce the beauty of the original text.
