摘要:本文是英语语言学论文,本研究的启示是,大学英语教学应当重视学生语用能力的培养,以便适应经济社会发展对英语人才的需求。在英语教学过程中,首先要培养学生的语用意识,让学生明白中英语境存在差异。
n college students share some similarities. Generally they use same apology strategy to save each other’s face in order to make a happy communication. However, Chinese students make more serious apologies than Australian students when it comes to interaction with someone of higher social status, such as teachers. In some situations, Chinese students tend to be over polite when interact with the people they are not familiar with, such as, waiter or waitress. This may be due to the reason that Chinese old tradition values politeness to people, in particular to the strangers. Duan and Wannaruk (2008) study the refusal strategy whether it is teachable or not. They employ DCT, DRPT and DSAT to check student’s pragmatic competence. They have pretest, test, and posttest, the result of tests indicates that those who are exposed to explicit teaching instruction achieve better than those who are under implicit teaching instruction and those who haven’t got pragmatic guidance are behind those who are taught pragmatics in an explicit way or implicit way. They also make tracking study which finds that the students who are taught pragmatics in classroom still have the knowledge storage after 2 months later.

This chapter demonstrates the results analyzed from the questionnaire and role play. Data collected from questionnaire demonstrate the general trend of pragmatic competence of college students in Tianjin University of Technology. The data got from a discourse role-play task (DRPT) show the real pragmatic performance of chosen students, which supports the data from questionnaire.
