Through the depiction of the green world and the complicatedinterpersonal relationship, Shakespeare aims at conveying the concept of ecological balanceand appeal to the healthy relationship between human being and nature.Different researches on Shakespearean comedy prosperous at home and abroad, thismakes Shakespearean comedy rich and complex. Also, there is hardly any study whichgives a general research on ecocriticism of Shakespearean comedy. What’s more, we canscarcely find any systematical research of Shakespearean comedy in terms of ecologicalholism. Thus, it would be more convincing and scientific for the author of this thesis toprobe into Shakespeare from the ecological perspective, which mainly emphasizes theecological consciousness and explicates the nature of mutual relationship between men andnature. A close reading of Shakespearean comedy from an ecological perspective asserts anambivalent human nature. People may love nature but ultimately they cannot make it theireternal heaven and they don’t want to legitimize it into their mainstream lifestyle, whichshows the hollowness of their nature worship.Shakespeare features in this comedy a special group of court people who areindifferent to the welfare of nature, and they even did wanton depredation in the forest ofArden. More specifically, in these people’s mind, all the other organism in the natural hasbeen positioned on the opposite side against human being. However, human being are notaware that owing to the fact that the whole world is integrated as a united biosphere, thecrisis in the natural world has led to the crisis in the society and in human being’s spiritualworld as might have been expected. Inside the whole social circle, everyone isinterconnected closely with each other and owing to the wrong viewpoint toward thenatural world, the society is filled with the seemingly unlimited private desires. Theconquering of nature inevitably leads to the fact of conducting people inside the society.The morbid relationship between the two brothers in the court is a good example.
