摘要:本文是英语语言学论文,本文选取请求言语行为作为研究对象。请求是一种威胁说话双方面子的言语行为,因此如何对请求进行回应,是衡量说话人礼貌认知和礼貌策略使用水平的重要标准。

in LZand DH.And the contrastive study between LZ and DH was also conducted. In supportof the previous hypotheses, the major findings of this study are as following:1. Due to the particularity of service industry and the sound development oftourismindustry,whenrespondingtocustomers,servicestaffbothin LZandDHtendedto employ a wide range of politeness strategies, including the use of alerters andgreetings to shorten distance, the flexible choice of direct and indirect responses, andthe multinational use of pre-posed and post-posed supportive moves to mitigate tone,etc. This indicated service staff’s perception of their responsibility to achieve balancebetween politeness and efficiency.2.Astatistically significant difference was found in service staff’s responses tocustomers of different genders in Dunhuang and Lanzhou respectively at certain levels.In both cities, the slightly politer responses to males were related to the traditionalConfucian ideologyin which men dominated in familyand took more financial powers,thus were more possible to devote to consumption. Such tendency could also be explained by the Dominance Theory.3. Different ages were proved to have effects on service staff’s responses inDunhuang and Lanzhou respectively at certain levels. Specifically, the young wereresponded more politely. The current economic situations where the young people tookthemain positioncould explainthis phenomenon.Theboomingoftourism industryandoptimization of transportation attracted the young customers to become the main forceof tourism-related industries. Therefore, service staff in these industries became moreenthusiastic and politer when facing young customers.
