ehension, whereas those with the score range between 24% and 36% are not regarded as his or her trouble. Scores lower than 12% is negligible. All the data are input into the computer and then are analyzed. The analysis procedure is: (1) Descriptive
statistics is employed to get the percentage. (2) Correlation analysis is to decide whether the factor is the obstacle in listening comprehension for English majors.
3. Results and Discussion
The results of correlation analysis show that English majors hold varied problems in the process of listening. In fact, listening comprehension is not simplex listening issue, but the real ability of language usage. According to English listening comprehension theories analysis, everyone knows that the obstacle factors refer to two aspects, that is linguistic and non-linguistic obstacles. The linguistic problems relate to basic language knowledge. For instance, phonetics, vocabulary and grammar work together. While the non-linguistic factors consist of background knowledge, mother tongue interference, listening habit, some skills and the reading speed, etc.. Provided these two aspects are interactive, the listening comprehension might come up to a relative good effect.
3.1 Linguistic factors
3.1.1 Phonetic obstacles
“Bollinger points out that language is the voice ...If you want to learn a language, you must learn pronunciation .Because phonetics is essential in the structure of language.” ( 陈军洲, 2006:42) Phonetics is one of the most basic and important elements in English learning . The basic phonetic knowledge includes one syllable, accent, rhythm, linking, plosive, the weak reading and the tone and so on. One person uses language to exchange the ideas. As a matter of fact he or she is using voice to express the essence, vent emotions and transmit information. Voice serves as a starting point of English learning, not only it is the premise of learning foreign language well, it also has a great help to improve the skills of heard. If one compares the foreign language to a building, then the speech is the foundation of the building. If people are able to express, vent and transfer the natural, they must first pass through the voice clearance. In general, some of the students are just satisfied with reading and understanding. They do not pay attention to discern the voice and gradually form the impression ears so that the most simple sentence seems a little tricky.
3.1.2 Vocabulary obstacles
It is very important to have abundant of English vocabulary. Not only reading and writing need a lot of vocabulary, listening also needs large numbers of vocabulary. Listeners can not understand sentences or a piece of material when they come across too many new words during listening. At the sight of new words, students feel anxiety. They may wonder what the meaning is. What’s more, many students stop listening when they meet new words.
3.1.3 Grammar obstacles
Solid grammar rules are necessary in listening comprehension. If students don’t master the basis of grammar knowledge, they can't understand what the speakers say. For example: (1) He is not half a bad fellow. (2) You can't be too careful when driving a car. The first sentence expresses the meaning that "He is a good person”. While the second one means “When driving a car, the more careful you are, the better.” These two sentences indicate the simple grammar knowledge .Both of them embody the function of negation.
