The modernism tendency embodied in  Lawrence's Sons and Lovers

摘要

现代主义文学是欧美最有影响的文学流派之一，广泛地反映了现代社会的矛盾和人们的心灵状态。D·H·劳伦斯是二十世纪英国文坛伟大的现代主义作家之一，他的小说《儿子与情人》无论从创作题材还是写作技巧上都具有明显的现代主义特征。本文旨在深入探索英国现代主义小说家劳伦斯的现代主义倾向。文章通过对劳伦斯的小说的研究，从几个层面系统地分析了他从现实主义向现代主义的执着跨越，并充分揭示了他在英国社会转型期表现出的独立而自觉地现代主义精神。

第一部分，主要是对劳伦斯的生平及主要作品作一简要介绍。第二部分，简要介绍了英美现代主义文学产生的文化与历史背景及其特点。第三部分详细探讨了劳伦斯《儿子与情人》的现代主义倾向。最后一部分则讨论作品中所运用的写作技巧来反映现代主义倾向。

Abstract

Modern literature is one of the most influential literary genres of Europe. It is widely reflected by the social contradictions and the people’s state. D·H·Lawrence is one of the greatest modernist writers in 20 century. We can obviously find the tendency of modernism not only in the creation subject, but also the writing skills in Sons and Lovers.

This article intends to express the British novelist, Lawrence’s modernist perspective. Through the study of his novel, this article will analyze his determined move from realism to modernism and demonstrate his independence and self conscious modernist spirit during social transformation. Under the first part，detailed discussion will be made about Lawrence’s life and works. For the second part, further discussion will be made about modernism in modern western literature. In the third part，a detailed analysis is made about modernist themes in Lawrence’s Sons and Lovers. In the last part, the skill of modern symbolism in Sons and Lovers will be discussed.
