摘要:The dualism of human nature includes the instinct of civilization and the instinct of savagery, which exist within all human’s heart. Different conditions stimulate different humanities to play their roles; civilization is the outcome of social obligation while the savagery is the most primitive nature.

for power, the antithesis of Ralph. From the beginning of the novel, Jack desires power above all other things. He is furious when he loses the election to Ralph and continually pushes the boundaries of his subordinate role in the group. Early on, Jack retains the sense of moral propriety and behavior that society instilled in him. In fact, in school, he was the leader of the choirboys. The first time he encounters a pig, he is unable to kill it. But Jack soon becomes obsessed with hunting and devotes himself to the task, painting his face like a barbarian and giving himself over to bloodlust. Jack also strives to control others, the more savage Jack becomes, the more he is able to control the rest of the group. He would even resort to torture, “what d’ you mean by it, eh?’ side the chief (Jack) forcefully’ what d’ you mean coming with spears? What d’ you mean by not joining my tribe?’ the prodding became rhythmic. Sam yelled.”(Lord of the Flies,1997:166)  Indeed, apart from Ralph, Simon, and Piggy, the group largely follows Jack in casting off moral restraint and embracing violence and savagery. Jack’s love of authority and violence are intimately connected, as both enable him to feel powerful and exalted. By the end of the novel, Jack has learned to use the boys’ fear of the beast to control their behavior; Jack makes the beast into a godlike figure, a kind of totem he uses to rule and manipulate the members of his tribe. He attributes to the beast both immortality and the power to change form, making it an enemy to be feared and an idol to be worshiped. When talking about the beast in Jack’s statement “we are strong-we hunt! If there is a beast we’ll hunt it down. We’ll close in and beat and beat”(Lord of the Flies,1997:83). He shows authoritarian power by threatening and terrifying others. He represents the instinct of savagery within human beings, as opposed to the civilizing instinct represented by Ralph.

Roger is Jack's lieutenant, but Roger represents brutality and bloodlust at their most extreme. Roger is a worth mentioning, a small boy with dirty and shaggy black hair, he is a relatively insignificant character but Jack's henchman who develops into a terrorist and epitomize evil. He kept to himself with an inner intensity of avoidance and secrecy. He uses his power to gratify his own desires, treating the littler boys as objects for his own amusement, and he is ready to kill Ralph. Piggy is just killed by him, he does it by pushing a bolder on Piggy, Roger enacts the evil wills and executes Jack’s aggressive use of force to an extreme.

Jack and Roger’s behaviors represent the instinct of savagery, the darkness of human nature , if the other boys follow the evil blindly, Jack and Roger are the real people who know what they do and want. Freedom and hunting make them excited and crazy. It is the original desires of human nature with exist in every one's heart.

    3.2.2 Barbarizing Feast

When Simon meets the Lord of the Flies his destiny is ordained. He confronts the sow’s head in the glade and it seems to speak to him, telling him that evil lies within every human heart and promising to have some “fun” with him (this “fun” foreshadows Simon’s death ). With the Lord of the Flies’ direction, Simon finds the dead parachutist. Understanding the monster doses not exist externally but rather within each individual boy. He wants to tell the论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
