摘要:本文是英语语言学论文,本文对起始规范进行重构,两译本的总体构成和源文一致,保留源文本的破折号运用,而未使用目的语语言系统中的标点习惯。两者都向源语语言和文化的规范靠拢,偏向适当性翻译。
Chapter 1 Introduction
1.1 Research Background
As we all know, children are the future and hope of the nation. Therefore, as an important role in children’s growth, children’s literature deserves a lot more attention than it has received as well as the translation of children’s literature. The translation works of foreign children’s literature enable the children know more about the world and enjoy the same happiness with the target readers of source text. Besides, a good translation work can stimulate children’s interest in reading, broaden their vision and help them raise the awareness of cross-cultural communication. Since the May Fourth Movement, more and more foreign children’s literature works of various styles have been introduced into China. The translators begin to realize the differences between children and adults in terms of psychology and cognition. But the wars years later inhibit the development of children’s literature translation. It dose not draw people’s attention until the foundation of new China. After then, hundreds of thousands of literature translations for children are published, especially after the reform and opening up. Unfortunately, the quality of the books varies greatly. A lot of disqualified works appear and they will exert a bad influence on children’s growth. Therefore, children’s literature translation research on how to translate an acceptable and meaningful work is of vital significance. At present, studies on children’s literature translation are still seated in a marginal place compared to the mainstream translation researches no matter at home or abroad. In China, scholars carry out the research mainly from three directions. The first type is the historical study on translation of children’s literature. Its development is roughly divided into four stages: period of late Qing Dynasty and early Republic (1898-1919), “May Fourth” period (1919-1930), anti-Japan war period (1931-1949) and contemporary time after the establishment of the new China 《中国学术期刊(光盘版)》电子杂志社编者注:文中的“Taiwan”均应为“Taiwan of China”。

1.2 Significance of the Study
In this
thesis, the author intends to conduct a descriptive and comparative research on children’s literature translation under the guidance of Gideon Toury’s translational norms theory with the target language’s socio-culture taken into account. Through observing the translated texts, which are the products of translators’ decision-making process, the author analyzes the translation strategies adopted, reconstructs the preliminary norms, initial norms and operational norms of the two Chinese versions of The Magician’s Nephew, and then compares the norms of the two translations with the purpose of exploring the universal laws that could be used to work out an e
