This is an individual coursework. You may ask staff and other students for advice, of course, but you must work alone to produce a piece of work independently from anyone else. Your work must be submitted to the Hendon Student Office by 28 May 2010.

This coursework involves studying financial data on a set of 本Assignment由代写Assignment网www.51lunwen.org提供 Greek companies. The data are available in the SPSS file stats_coursework.sav on Oasisplus. The aim of the analysis is to investigate how corporate financial disclosure practices depend on various company characteristics.

The variables containing the company information correspond to those in cyprus.sav for the Cypriot companies studied in Session 3, except that the coursework data also includes information on market capitalisation.

You are to use SPSS to investigate how the company characteristics appear to affect the level of corporate financial disclosure as measured by the index variable, formulate a suitable regression model, and interpret this model. You are to submit a report of not more than 1500 words summarising your investigations and conclusions.

This word limit includes tables shown in the body of the report. However, your report may have an appendix which does not count towards the word limit, and this might be a good way to present SPSS results without interrupting the flow of the report. Of course you need to reference this appendix properly from the body of the report.

Your report must have a front page giving your name and student number, the module number, my name, and a word count of the report’s main body. The report must be typed or word-processed, although diagrams may either be produced using SPSS or drawn neatly by hand.

Please submit your work as a set of pages simply stapled together, and do not put them in a binder or a plastic wallet. Be warned that you will lose marks for poor presentation if you do not follow this instruction!

Some hints, ideas and things to think about:

• Start by using plots to investigate the distribution本Assignment由代写Assignment网www.51lunwen.org提供 of the key variables. If a variable appears to be far from normally distributed, try taking logs.
• Use scatters plots and a correlation matrix to investigate relationships between the variables.
• We would expect the variables actual or max to be highly correlated with index, since index is calculated directly from these variables. You should therefore not include either of these variables in your regression model.
• If you want to include sector in your model then you will need to construct dummy variables, as you did in Session 5’s Exercises.
• Check your model by examining the residuals.
• What does your model tell you about how the level of disclosure depends on a company’s other characteristics?
• Can you identify any potential problems with your analysis?
• You will probably want to include some tables and/or diagrams to explain and support your conclusions.
