The Group Project
Each group should have 4-5 people. The task for the Group Project will be to design an innovation strategy for a global company in the aerospace industry. You should address the following:

1. Consider the main threats and opportunities to your business that may arise from changes in its external operating environment and identify how technological change in particular is likely to influence the external operating environment for your business.
2. Assess the strengths and weaknesses of your business with respect to technological innovation and compare them to your competitors.
3. Consider the role that technological innovation should play in the competitive strategy of your business.
4. Design an innovation strategy for your business.
5. Determine the appropriate allocation of resources to support your innovation strategy.
6. Identify the key challenges that you expect to face in implementing your innovation strategy and explain how you will address them.

Group Project Presentation (not assessed) (28th April)
You will make a group presentation on your innovation strategy. The presentation should last no longer than 20 minutes. You will then take questions for 10 minutes from myself and another member of faculty. Use the presentation to present your interim analysis and outline your innovation strategy and get feed-back that you can use to finalise your project report.

Group Project Report (deadline not later than 13.00 on Thursday 13th May)
You will also prepare a Group Project report of no more than 5,000 words.

Q: Is attendance compulsory? Can I pass the elective by just reading the handouts?

A: Attendance is compulsory and our experience in teaching this elective (and others) is that there is a strong correlation between those who attend and actively participate in the elective and performance in the assessed part of the elective. Our experience is that those who rely on class handouts tend to find that they do poorly - there is a lot more information communicated by the lecturing staff than appears in the handouts.
