To do this the United States will have to team up with members of the U.N. to make sure that any terrorists or other groups that may hinder the implementation of the United States from gaining any type of ground in Sudan to build a safe haven for the terrorists. In conclusion, the United States has been actively involved in the ending of any type of genocide. In 1948 the UN Security Council defined genocide during the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. Than in 2003 the Darfur region in the country of Sudan faced the crisis of genocide when the Sudanese government sent a militia known as the Janjaweed into the region of Darfur and the Janjaweed killed almost four hundred thousand people and left almost two and a half million people of Darfur displaced and without homes. After months of these killings going on the United States finally intervened in the crisis when they finally drafted a resolution for the United Nation’s Security Council that threatened the Sudanese government to disarm the Sudan militia and to take immediate action to prosecute the Janjaweed militia within thirty day. These actions would continue on for the next several years. The US tried to resolve the situation by funding the humanitarian crisis solutions during the first year of their involvement. Over the next two years the US will take a leading role in the implementation of two agreements the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005 and the Darfur Peace Agreement in 2006. Then they try to punish those who did not sign these agreements by imposing sanctions on the government of Sudan. Finally as 2008 arrived and a new president is welcomed into office the new President Barack Obama set forth a new policy towards the issue in Sudan. The issues have not ended in Darfur even up to this day and there has not yet been a solution for this problem.
