Economic and Education Analysis of Dubai

For centuries now, education has been the most essential cog in the wheel of the human civilization’s development. The fountainhead of mankind’s progress they say. When Newton and Einstein discovered gravity and relativity respectively, they had no idea that they had already set this world’s thirst for knowledge in motion. Little did they know that in the 21st century, hoards of entrepreneurs, engineers, doctors and businessmen would be participating in the famously known ‘rat race’ to grab the honour of being know as the most influential person in the world.

And this is where the importance of a good education comes into the picture. Without one there is no participation in the rat race, no shot at glory and no hope for growth. It’s the survival of the fittest really. But where does everything really fall into place? Do you need to have an array of degrees just to land yourself into a good job? Is it the quantity of degrees or their quality that matters? Where do people seek education and what do they look for? More importantly what sort of instilled education does a company look for? These and many other questions are what we shall try to answer in the course of this report.

1.2 DUBAI: THE ZENITH OF PROGRESS

In the past 10 years the world saw the rise (and slight fall during the recession) of our beloved desert city-Dubai. The rapid development has attracted a high number of working professionals to UAE. Large numbers of expats have settled down here due to the favourable financial gains of the ever growing industries of the region.

Population wise Dubai currently stands at about 1.8 million, with almost 3/4ths being male. The majority of the population being male owes to the fact that there is a need for extensive man power in construction projects.

1.2.1 THE EXPATS

Dubai is full of expatriates, the majority of them being south Asians which include Indians, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans and Bangladeshis. The other predominant expat population is of the Philippines. The major Europeans are from UK and the few other notable expats come from US, Canada, South Africa and Australia.

The gap between locals and expatriates in the GCC workforce has remained huge with the expatriates recording a dominating presence in virtually all job categories. It is seen that up to 58 per cent of the GCC's workforce is made up of expatriates.

Much like in other GCC countries, the UAE Government has been aggressively pushing for its Emiratisation program, which aims to increase the number of qualified UAE workers in the job market. However, because the bulk of UAE nationals are absorbed almost exclusively in the public sector, the local job market will remain dominated by a growing expatriate population. It is concluded that increasing the adoption of local professional workforce in the private sector will play a c论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
