摘要：Objectiveness and equality are the internal attribute of the news report. The journalist should report according to the fact although there always hides the subjective perspective of the reporter between the lines. However, the news report is not always objective due to some reasons. This research aims to find out the subjective perspective of the news report of New York Times on Iranian Islamic Revolution and 2009–2010 Iranian election protests through analyzing and comparing the texts of the report, and to examine how cultural differences influence on the media coverage, whereby affects people's perception of the world. The sub-system of the Appraisal Theory of James R. Martin, namely, Attitude Theory and the Framing Theory can be applied to four areas including emotion, of judgments, of appreciation and of cultural diversities. By using the theory the research try to prove that media coverage could reflect people’s perception of certain events upon the media coverage., and how the media coverage affects people's perception. On-line documents and publications, interviews and questionnaire have been undertaken and examined to assist the study in this researching project. The findings suggest that the news report in fact has been exerting great influence upon the public perceptions and the policy practice although there are differences between the media coverage of the two events of Iranian Islamic Revolution and 2009-2010 Iranian election protests, which were attributed to the stereotypes as the rule of media industry, principles like orientalism, as well as the Cold War legacy.
