The castle and its lands,
Once filled with the laughter of the children;
The sky and the meadows,
Once filled with the refreshing and calm winds.
Now the castle and its lands,
Were down to ruins;
Children's Laughter were turned to Cries,
The sky and the meadow became shades of grey.
Everything was dark and solemn,
No faces were happy or bright;
What have bring forth,
To the once call our home.
Sudden, the rain pours,
Onto our homeland;
Everyone in the lands,
Looked up and a sudden change occurred.
The dark solemn faces of the people;
The dark shades of the meadows and the sky,
The children then start to play in the rain.
The rain seem to have washed away,
A mere rain that fall from the sky,
That washed away and let everyone start anew;
Some may say the rain accompanies sadness,
I would say it is a sign of rebirth.

 

Poetry Analysis:

The poetry is written from the point of view of one of the victims at war in a faraway land. The time, era and place where the poetry takes place were insignificance to the main point of the poem. Rain, for many years was used as a sign of sadness, loneliness, loss of hope, depression and even death. But in this poetry, the rain is completely the opposite of the common meaning of rain as the rain is portrayed as a sign of rebirth, a revolution and a new beginning in this poetry. In the first verse which is in the past, "The castle and its land" give readers an image of a castle standing tall in a small land as it is encompasses by "The sky and the meadows". From the two verses, we can also see that peace and calmness were shown to be in the land in the past as "The laugher of children" and the "refreshing calm winds" are present in its lands. In the second verse, it goes back to the present, saying how war can devastate a beautiful land into ruins, how war makes the sky looks dull and grey and the disappearance of the laughter of the children. War for many centuries have taken away many, many lands creating disaster to innocent civilizations and children, even though everyone has the same ideal of having peace, but it never seems to be that way for people are greedy towards power. In the second verse, the word "grey" symbolises the in-between of light and dark as the people are gone astray from their pathway and direction in war, they would not know what was right and what was wrong, even in their eyes, people of their own kind and people that they used to play with become enemies. In the third verse, it continues talking about how war changes the people from their original nature to a wild and feral nature which immediately changes the whole civilization and their beliefs altogether, and it also seems the people of war has also started to forget their selves and their homelands. In the fourth verse, the rain comes in which also represents the sign of hope, rebirth and evolution to the people and the lands.
