This paper first review the main methodological approaches and methods, then do self-diagnosis of research methods, at last summarize the research approaches applied. This study employs documentary research as the primary research method, it also employs two supplementary research methods: qualitative interview and qualitative media content analysis. Documentary research could help the author to piece together the tendencies and patterns of the events and issues unfolding in American media industry. And the data from two supplementary research approaches would be good supplement data.

Tasks:

1.      Taking your topic area from assignment 1, review the main methodological approaches and methods used in research studies in the area and assess their appropriateness. If you wish to change your topic that in assignment 1, you should give a brief introduction to explain the change.

2.      Starting with the attached “self-diagnosis of your research approach’, review your personal research perspective in comparison to the methods identified in Task 1 above.

3.      Perform an analysis of your strengths and weaknesses in research skills( see the attached ‘qualities of competent researchers’ checklist for a starting point), assuming you were to carry out both primary and secondary research in your chosen area. The web links below should you to expand on your self-diagnosis from wider classifications of skills(e.g.1) up to full blown research skill audits(e.g.5).

4.      You should conclude by briefly considering how awareness of the research skills you need to develop might help to refine your research questions for assignment 3.
