Chapter 1 Introduction 第一章 引言

1.1 Research Motivation 研究动机
Durban Climate Change Conference, an international climate change summit, was held in Durban,South Africa from November 28th, 2011 to December 9th, 2011. Representatives of the 192 countries andthe European Union as well as parties to the U.N.’s climate body, gathered in Durban, South Africa to beginanother climate talk. Before Durban Climate Change Conference, the United Nations FrameworkConvention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Kyoto Protocol and the Bali Roadmap had been worked outand signed by many countries to reduce carbon emissions together. The main theme of the conference thisyear is try to elicit $100 billion in pledges which the developed countries have committed to provide capitalsupport to the developing countries against the climate change. With the rapid development both in the field of economy and population in the past decades, Chinahas become the world’s top carbon emitter, and the emissions of carbon dioxide might go on increasing inthe future due to its fast economic growth. Considering the above situations, China promises they willadhere to a low-carbon development path and contribute to global efforts in addressing climate change. Ithas been broadly admitted that China’s effects in reducing carbon emissions is second to no otherdeveloped economies. The United States, the second-largest emitter overall and one of the largest emittersper capita, has not signed the Kyoto Protocol. The U.S. has refused to sign a blueprint for the GreenClimate Fund because they are not content with the principles of “common but differentiatedresponsibilities” between the developed countries and the developing countries. From the perspective of China, they thought that the problem of carbon emissions is not only arealistic problem but a historical problem as well. In addition, despite the world’s top carbon emitter overall,it ranks much lower per capita. Therefore, China as one of the developing countries, has some technical andfinancial difficulties in emissions reduction, and denies sharing the same responsibilities with thedeveloped countries. They insist that developed-world nations should pay the bulk of the fund becausetoday’s climate-change problems resulted from their industrialization. But the U.S. refuses to foot the billunless the developing countries can undertake their due responsibilities same as the developed ones. Therefore, the dispute between the United States and China, the two largest sources of the carbon dioxideemissions that contribute to global warming, https://www.51lunwen.org/news/org201211142147533168.htmlhas become an obstacle in the process of settling the fundproblem.Taking lexical choosing analysis and transitivity as analytic tools in news discourse analysis, the thesisaims to reveal ideologies and powers hidden beneath Chinese media and the U.S. newspapers. Throughanalyzing the lexical and grammatical levels of news discourse from two opposite parties on the DurbanClimate Change Conference, the linguistic features, ideological meanings and the stands of two parties canbe figured out. Moreover, the author attempts to study how news reporters of different media shape theirown images as well as their counterparts’ with the help of linguistic strategies. The author tries to explainthe reasons why the U.S. and China can not take on binding commitments论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
