Project Managing the Relocation of BABs

1.0 The Project definition
Maylor. H (2005) (pp 28) points out that in the project definition part it is the time to determine what the project is about, its reasons for existence and the intentions that it intends to progress. It is time to explore the possibilities, find alternatives to the problem presented.
Field & Keller (2003) also gives their view on the project definition. They also focus on clarifying the project and doing thorough analysis. 

1.1 The objectives and purposes of this project
As a national retailer of computers, peripherals and electronic equipment, BABs.com’s business is progressing rapidly. The sales have increased from £40M to £150M in 2008. As a result, the current premise cannot satisfy the company’s operation any more. So it is imperative to move the business to a larger premise.
The objectives of this project are to organize the relocation of the business into a new building no later than April 2011. The project team should monitor the whole process of the relocation including the construction of the new building, distribution of the office space, computer workstations, computer network and MIS. Besides, the external environment of the building is also concerned. The purpose of this project is to enhance the business activities without affecting the business operation before the relocation. 
1.2 project scope
  The new ‘off the shelf’ building is 2400 m2  building on a brown field site. So this project can be regarded as a medium one. Moreover, according to the table below, we can figure out this project will last two to three years. Some related issues must be discussed in such a time span including the company’s business growth.
