Assistant Project Manager - undertakes PM duties assigned to him by the projectr manager.

Contractor - undertakes WORK on a contract basis for a fee (not part of the project team).
Sub-contractor - undertakes work for the contractor on a fee basis (not part of the project team)
Background Concepts
In commerce, it is becoming commonplace for senior managers to make comments like. “ in this business is to people that make the difference”. This attitude is been slow to enter into the confines of project management. Perhaps because such great emphasis is placed on the many other technical aspects of the project management process, such as scoping, planning risk assessment. It is clear that the nature of most people's project, place a premium and having the right people working in the right environments, such the quality of the relationship between them is conducting an excellent performance.
Projects never exist in isolation. They are always connected to some form of system, or a main network of organisations, and other stakeholders who will wish to influence the project or even halt the project. Project leaders need to be able to identify these important stakeholders wherever possible. Remember, stakeholders are those people or organisations that have a stake in the conduct and outcome of the project.
Stakeholders are critical to the project, and the more they become critical the more they affect and no more they have to say in affecting its conduct, and outcomes.
Each project will have its own it unique profile of stakeholders, this is covered later in these study notes.
As projects are unique endeavors very often, that teams themselves are quite unique within organisations, it is common for project teams may be made up of a mix of external and internal workers, external project team members are frequently transient between projects, this means to members may be working in your team for a time then move on. Although this sounds to be a very difficult situation to manage, it is quite normal and does have an advantage in that it increasing the experience brought into the team.
