1 What is the triple constraints of Project Management? Describe each of the elements and discuss why it is important to manage them both separately and together through the life of a project.
According to the theory of constraints, every project must face to challenges within the triple constraint including scope (quality), cost (resources) and time (schedule). The triple constraints of project management are significant to achieve successful projects. It defines the quality of project planning, resource alignment and execution of projects. Since the triple constraints refer to barriers, limitations and restrictions in the process of project implementation. They may influence the final course of direction in project task and, schedule and resource arrangement (Dobson, 2004). Ultimately, the scope, cost and time contribute to key elements of success in project management. Meanwhile, the triple constraints also help to determine whether or not the projects are well managed.
Scope
Scope of project management usually defines the part of products, service and outcomes related with the demand of customers, sponsors and executers. Usually, there is a clear and specific statement which illuminates the issues of valuable performance and process. Through layout of detail function, characters, content and unique design, the project would be carry out according to roadmap of scope (Farooqi, 2008). Thus, in other words, the scope of project would enable to represent the final outcome of projects.
Time
Time, also called schedule in project management, is closely arranged according to every detail project. It defines the dates or days properly for team members. The schedule of time requires project should be finished within certain times. Once the project is fixed, each task or components are broke down into time schedule within certain days. Thus, the time constraint of project well answered the right programs of performance at right time (Noreen, et al., 1995). Meanwhile, it defines the authority of changing the schedules of projects. As a result, the project could estimate the duration of the project. As well, it is obvious to help know what and how many resources are required to special project.
Cost
Cost of project usually relates with the money or budget for one project management. It defines the terms of money and effort should be applied into the project in order to carry out particular project. Such as human capital, material resources, and risk management and assessment are generally involved in the cost constraints. Thus, cost constraints are usually represented as a way of budget in project management.
In order to understand effectiveness of triple constraints, it necessary to know the integrated function of each of constraints in project management. It is said that the triple constraints are interdependent. Once one of the triple constraints has been restricted or extended, the other two constraints also should be changed according to some way (Farooqi, 2008). The balance of triple constraints in project management is very significant to successful projects. Meanwhile, some project managers argued that the triple constraints are not incomplete to improve the successful performance if without addition of quality (Rand, 2000). The triple con
