According to the efficient market hypothesis put forward by a financial theory professor, asset prices reflect all available information, implicating that if you wonder about the actual operating situation of a company, evidence can be given by its stock price and general stock market; reading all its financial reports is totally unnecessary. This hypothesis enabled me to realize the significance of Finance in society and the bright prospect of further studying it with my enormous enthusiasm while undertaking my postgraduate degree.
In fact, my parents are both the bachelor of Economics; my mother is a teacher of finance at the Jilin Institute of Commerce and Technology. Both parents exerted the first and the most important factor on me, directing me toward the realm of finance. I still remember that once I confronted important decisions to be made, the cost-benefit logic they taught me always helped me to make the best choice.
I graduated from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, a renowned and leading medical university in China, where I was offered a wide variety of courses, among which, the Economics and commerce related courses opened up a whole new world of finance for me. Meanwhile, I mastered lots of mathematical methods after I learned Higher Mathematics, Linear Algebra, and so on. Besides, my ability for abstract thinking, logical reasoning, synthesizing and date processing were also improved after attending courses of Discrete Mathematics, Health Statistics and Statistical Software Package. As a matter of fact, the memorable university life saw my bumper harvest in the realms of finance and mathematics.
During my campus life, basking in economics courses, I came to realize that economics is the very realm where I should devote all of my time and energy in the future. For this reason, I valued my senior year watching and studying open-course videos about finance from some famous universities around the world on the Internet, such as Financial Theory and the Game Theory. I also seized every opportunity to audit some classes in the School of International Business and Economics. My knowledge as well as my vision was broadened in the course of attending those classes. Moreover, being an auditor strengthened my determination to study further finance after graduation.
It is generally acknowledged that genuine knowledge comes from practice; I knew this well, so I did part-time jobs and researches after school. I still have a vivid memory of the tough period when I worked in a brokerage company; everything was new to me and my mind had been more than once overcome by the thought of giving up. However, on second thought, I chose to stay because working in that company was an estimable opportunity for me, and in utilizing it I could fully combine what I had learned with practical problems; it is really a sweet memory when looking back.
Extracurricular activities and student organizations also occupied an indispensable position in my mental and physical growing; in my university life, I participated in various activities in students communities. I once succeeded in organizing a campus “Cyber Games”; what’s more, I helped our society organize many courses, making our students become much more familiar with social etiquette, manner of discourse, and skills pertinent for interview, which would be quite useful in their future careers.
