ough weekly one-hour lectures. The details of these lectures are provided below. They are designed to provide you with a broad overview of ten inter-linked topic areas, which together will provide a detailed and sophisticated understanding of the developments and challenges of managing public services. Lectures will commence promptly at 10am and time will be allocated at the end for questions and comments.
Seminars. The module is organised with two seminars. The first, towards the beginning of the module to help you discuss and analyse key topics and issues that have been covered in previous weeks and help you think about assessment. The second, to help you develop your preparations for assessment through focussed discussions of suggested Essay topics. Seminar slots are available via Nexus and students are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.
Nexus & Twitter The module makes use of the university Nexus system as a core resource for the module handbook, lecture materials and core readings. It is also used for booking seminar slots and posting messages to the module convenor. For individual queries, questions or to arrange personal tutorials students must contact the module convenor directly via e-mail. The module also makes use of twitter (nubs_psm) that will be used to post and discuss current social, political and media events related to the module (the frequency of this service cannot be guaranteed).
Personal Tutorials. Each week the module convenor has allocated two hours of office time for Public Services Management student tutorials. Although optional, students are encouraged to utilise this opportunity to discuss weekly topics and debates, to discuss readings and prepare for assessment. These are made available in 15 minutes slots and are booked on a ‘first come, first served basis’, as either individual one-to-one sessions or small group workshops (up to 4 people). Approximately 6 slots a week will be available. To book a tutorial, please e-mail the module convenor ideally a week in advance. In the advent of over-subscription, a fair usage policy will operate for these tutorial slots to ensure that all students have the opportunity for personal tutorial

Feedback and Personal Development
It is important for you to have detailed and timely feedback from your assessed work. At the conclusion of the module, the module convenor will prepare a generic feedback report that will be located on Nexus and will present a short lecture exploring the main themes that arose from the assessment. Individual tutorials will also be allocated, on request, for individual feedback.

Getting in touch
You are encouraged to get involved and shape the module as we progress through the semester. It is important for you to be able to get in touch with the module convenor and other lecturers to share any concerns, discuss specific topics and plan for assessment. To this end, please make full use of lectures and seminars (for Q&A), book individual or small-group tutorials, post messages on either Nexus or Twitter and e-mail any questions.
 
Assessment
The assessment has been design to give you flexibility and discretion in the choice of essays. It is recognised that some students will have experience of working in certain public services, and others may have particular career aspirations in these areas.
