摘要:At present, the college English education in our country, especially the English readingcomprehension education, is still the traditional education model that mainly based on the memory ofthe English words and the application of the English grammar. It can not deny that the traditionaleducation model has its own rationality. And under this kind of education model, there are greatnumber of English talents were cultivated to the society. However, with the rapid economicdevelopment, society’s requirements for the English reading ability have been gradually improved.The traditional English education model is limited by its own limitations, which can not meet therequirements. So how to further improve college students’ English reading ability, which requires abreakthrough and innovation in the traditional English education.

Chapter I Introduction

 

English has become the international lingua franca along with the development of thesociety, especially with the faster and faster tempo of life. In today's society, English has beendeeply extended into all aspects of our lives. Large to the international communication and thecooperation of different countries, and small to even a comedy's packing instruction. Consideringthe ever-increasing actual requirement, students and some other business professionals need topay close attention on the application of English, especially the application of English in theprocess of communication in our country. And when the right direction of English learning wasfound, more and more efforts should be done especially on improving practical application ability.From primary to college, English Education sometimes even plays a more important role,comparing with the mother tongue education in our country.For present college English education system, relevance theory is a new type of pragmatictheory. In general, in the process of college English teaching, especially the college Englishreading teaching, is basically by way of memorizing the English words, phrases, and somecertain grammar knowledge to master English. The advantage of this kind of English teachingmodel is that it taught the basic English knowledge to students. However, this kind of Englishteaching model also has obviously disadvantages. The effects, of which improved students’understanding on the question types of English reading comprehension, are not good . Relevancetheory as a pragmatic theory, which can be used to improve students’ English reading ability.The quotation of the relevance theory in the process of college English teaching, which wellsolved the disadvantages of the traditional English reading teaching, provides a new direction onthe college English teaching. The quotation of the relevance theory also have some otheradvantages, such as improve students’ English reading ability, promote students’ reading abilityto adapt to the society needs, and lay a good foundation for students’ long term development.When students enter into the college, they will be immediately confronted with the new learningenvironment, which has great differences from the senior middle school, in which its primarymission is to lay a good foundation on the basic knowledge of English for further study. There arefour basic English ability that students should be developed. The English reading ability is one of theimportant ability that students need to focus on. So how to train students’ English reading ability is thetop priority of these issues. What kind of English reading proficiency that the students should beopposed? And when students read English materials, what kind of reading skills does the studentsshould be opposed? What shall teachers do to improve the English reading teaching method duringthe process of English education in college? What we want to understand is that which direction willbe the correct direction that is value, then students can considered that to take as much as possibleefforts. Only the real understanding of the nature of the English reading, then both teachers andstudents can find specific ways to solve problems existed in English education in college.Furthermore, we can avoid detours and mistakes on the road to improve the English teaching methodand provide better English teaching method for the college students.
