owadays, concept map is popularly used in education, which acts as a teaching
strategy and a learning strategy. It is beneficial for students to have a meaningful learning, arouses them interest in learning English, as well as is helpful to master knowledge and skills. Teachers also make use of concept map to teach and test students. The study wants to explore the application of concept map into English reading comprehension based on relevant research. That is to say, this study aims to probe whether the concept map has a good effect on English reading comprehension and whether it can help students to improve their reading grades so as to give more evidence for further concept map study.

Chapter Two Literature Review
There are two parts in this chapter. The first part describes reading comprehension, which includes its definition, principles, activities and reading strategies. The second part tells concept map, which consists of its introduction, characteristics, theoretical framework, functions, researches at home and abroad, and teaching models.
2.1 Reading Comprehension
With the advancement of China’s reform and opening up, English becomes more and more important. Reading plays an important role in English teaching. The reason why students need to learn reading is to learn English well. Reading can provide students with numerous materials, improve their ability to analyze and deal with problems, expand their scope of knowledge, widen their horizon as well as get them accustomed with culture of foreign countries so as to lay a solid foundation for their life-long learning. Therefore, we will have a deeper understanding of reading in the following part. There are different ideas about reading. Traditional reading is regarded as a extremely passive process of receiving information. That is to say, readers can understand passages only by vocabularies, phrases, and grammar. Readers need to passively learn and memory words and then translate passages into their comprehending ones. From what has been mentioned above, it is easy to know that vocabulary and language points are very important in English reading ignoring readers’ background information, and other experiences.
