摘要:本文是英语阅读论文,国内外学者对此均有研究,但在初中英语教学中没有提及,本文尝试把窄式阅读应用到初中英语阅读教学中,以提高学生的阅读兴趣和阅读成绩。
However, there are few studies about Narrow Reading so far, especially there is a blank toconduct the empirical ones of English teaching in Junior High School. So this thesis willattempt to discuss how to effectively improve students’ reading interest and competenceunder the Narrow Reading guidance in Junior High School. The research will lay atheoretical basis for the application, provides theoretical support for improving the currentsituation of English reading in junior high school, and provide a new road for thediversification of teaching means, teaching models, and teaching
strategy. Using narrowreading is a good way to guide the students to read in a correct method and to help studentsovercome obstacles in the process of reading. Narrow reading also helps teachers changethe teaching ideas and change the teaching models. By applying different teaching methodsin teaching activities, the teaching result, the quality and effect can be expected to improveon a large scale.

Chapter Two Literature review
This chapter is divided into six parts. Firstly, the definition, the role and thepracticality of narrow reading are to be introduced. Secondly, the importance, the role ofinterest and the relation of the reading and interest will be described. Thirdly, the Englishreading teaching is to illustrate including the principles and the models. Following that,some theoretical foundations will be explained. The last but one, some empirical studies onnarrow reading at home and abroad are to be described. The last part shows the summaryof the whole chapter.
2.1 Narrow reading
Narrow reading was proposed by Krashen in 1981 after the Input Hypothesis. It madestudents decrease the anxiety and the reading difficulty and cultivate their reading interestand ability by reading the articles of the same topic and author and by the reappearing ofthe aim words, grammar and the background knowledge. This section will introduce thedefinition of the narrow reading, the role of the narrow reading and the practicality of thenarrow reading.Krashen (1981)
notes the narrow reading is an effective reading strategy. Therequirements of narrow reading is quite different from that in intensive and extensivereading. He suggests that learners should read articles on the same topic, books by thesame author or in the same genre. Reading the similar materials is good for knowing aboutthe same vocabularies, grammar structures and the background knowledge again and again.Only in this way can the difficulty of the reading materials be decreased. Thus, with thehelp of the knowledge gained from the narrow reading before, learners can be moreinterested in reading more relevant articles and get a mass of language input from materialsabout the narrow theme scope. Through learning many articles about the same or similartopics or genres, language acquisition can improve quickly. It is compared with thetraditional reading strategy “survey”, which means acquirers read many types of topicarticles in certain time. Krashen holds that “survey” is not good for the accumulation ofbackground knowledge.
