Chapter Four Results and discussion

This chapter mainly presents the results and discussions of the questionnaires and thepre-test. In addition, the post-test and the interview will also be introduced between thestudents in EC and CC. The author collected the data and used the SPSS to make acomparison of the scores to testify whether the lexical chunks approach have a positive effectof the students’ English reading interests and ability.

4.1 Results

This part presents the results of questionnaires, pre-test, post-test and interviews, andthen the author analyzes the data collected of the students between EC and CC. The analysisof the tests are shown in the following tables.The author gave the questionnaire before the experiment in order to know the situationof the students on English reading. All the students wrote the questionnaires in CC and ECand they were willing to participate in the study of the application of the lexical approach. Thequestionnaire aims to find out the problem of the students in English reading and the attitudetowards the approach.There were 12 questions in the questionnaire and each question has 5 options to answerfrom A to E. (A means Strongly agree; B means Agree; C means Not Sure; D means Disagree;E means Completely Disagree) Then, the Table 4.1 was showed presents the results of thequestionnaires in the Control Class.

Conclusion

In this chapter, the author presents the major findings and the implication of theexperiment and the author gives a conclusion of the study. In addition, the author will presentthe limitations and give the suggestions for the further study in chapter five.Based on the lexical chunk approach, the study was made for the students on Englishreading and the author found out the conclusions as follows:Firstly, the application of the lexical chunk approach can make an improvement onstudents’ reading interests in English learning. It is helpful for students to have a betterunderstanding of the reading comprehension and form a good habit of English reading. Thechanges of the experimental class are obvious, that is, students’ attitude towards readingbecome more active and the atmosphere of the EC class are more positive. There are morestudents in EC to have a tendency to read more passages with the help of the lexical chunkapproach, which proves that the anxiety and worries of the students are be averted in someaspects while doing the English reading.
