[ Abstract] 　This paper offers definitions of Chinese English and China English. With the introductions of studies onEnglish varieties and China English from the aspects of both foreign and Chinese linguistic field, and investigations on Chi2nese college students of English and non2English major, it aims to find out necessities for China English to exist and p ro2mote its developmentwith the growing of China.

The language ofAnglo - Saxons is the basis of theold English, which was developed from the Low WestGermanic. English absorbed a great amount of wordsfrom French, Latin and dialects ofMiddle East p lacesand gradually developed into a kind of Lingua Franca

[ 1 ] . Gradually, English is considered as a tool for in2ternational communication, but not owned by only onecountry or one nation, and British English and Ameri2can English are not seemed as standard languages buttwo varieties of English

[ 2 ] . English has been in Chinafor over 180 years since 19th century. As the inter2in2fluence and inter2infiltration between Chinese and Eng2lish cultures, many Chinese Borrowings become a partof Normal English. Because of language transfer in theEnglish language acquisition p rocess, China Englishappears, which is always confused with Chinglish. Ithas its necessity to exist and develop into a kind of sys2tematic and scientific language variety as British andAmerican English do.I. Ch ina English and Chinese English.China English is a variant of the English languageused by Chinese for communication under their specificcircumstance dwelling on the traditional Standard Eng2lish and combing with Chinese history, custom andthinking patterns. AsBritish English and American English are two varietiesof old English, Standard English does not exist, soChina English obeys rules ofNormative English. Aboveall, China English is based on Normative English, isnot interfered by native language and aims to guide theworld to China and introduce China to the worldthrough transliteration, metaphor translation and se2mantic regeneration

[ 3 ] .There is another term Chinese English ( Ch2inglish) , which is easily confused with the term“Chi2na English”. Chinese English is an interlanguage usedby Chinese learnerswho have notmaster the NormativeEnglish. In 1972, Mr. L. Selinker, firstly put forwardthe concep t of“interlanguage”: the interim grammarsformed by second language learners in the p sychologi2cal p rocess of language learning

The features arethe phenomena of linguistic interference from the nativelanguage and linguistic transfer.From the above definitions of China English andChinese English, similarities can be seen that theyboth have the phenomena of linguistic transfer, anddifferences are much more evident: 1) China Englishrefers to the group linguistic feature in contrastwith theindividual linguistic feature, as the Chinese Englishdoes; 2) The interference of Chinese factors and Chi2nese thinking pattern in China English is desirable andis used to meet the need of some special aims; whilethat in the Chinese English is undesirable and uncon2scious
