CHAPTER SIXGENERAL DISCUSSION

6.1 Discussion about the Original LPE Document

During the investigation of several migrant workers, we asked them to read the LPEdocument used in this study, 94% of them have reported the following opinions aboutthe document:(1) The language used in this document is too formal, and it is hard for them toconcentrate on reading it for a long time, let alone remembering it by heart;(2) The way to address the target readers as “Peasant Workers” is mentally offensive,which makes them feel alienated from the legal authorities;(3) The arrangement is not so clear; the readers cannot find what they really need toknow very easily;(4) Some of the stipulations are ambiguous, and it didn’t provide further explanation.In order to modify this document, we need to know the present legal cognition ofthe target readers, i.e. the NGMWs. With Reference to some relevant studies, we knowour target readers are in lack of confidence in legal systems and they can not find asense of belonging from the legal system.On the basis of the above findings, this paper revises the original documentsfrom the following perspectives:(1) Language. Use casual language in the introductory part of the text. Address thereaders with friendly deixis.(2) Structure. Arrange the document in the order of the need of NGMWs.(3) Content. Add some case studies and illustrations to further explain some importantstipulations to make it easy to understand.The experimental research later proved the revision is effective for improving thelegal cognition of NGMWs.

CONCLUSION

Firstly, up to now, there are not many researches about the linguistic features of theLPE written texts.
