摘要:本文是英语论文范文,本文拟从模糊语言学的理论基础和语用学中的合作原则(CP)来解释社会新闻中的模糊语言现象。作者试图通过在中国日报英文版的很多文章进行一个社会新闻中模糊语言的语用研究。
hina Daily. Through the elaborate research, the author tries to demonstrate that fuzzy language in social news flouts one maxim of CP so as to obey another. Furthermore, the author aims to explain the seven pragmatic functions of fuzzy language in social news cited from the English version of China Daily: (1)strengthening the credibility of news; (2)enhancing the reliability of news; (3)protecting reporters/writers; (4)avoiding absoluteness in news reporting; (5)corresponding to the reading psychology of readers; (6)avoiding negative effects; and (7)increasing the efficiency of expressions.

Chapter 2 Literature Review
As is widely known that most of the expressions people use in natural language are fuzzy for the reason that it is difficult for people to specify a constant and unique boundary between the objects to which the expressions apply and those to which they don't. For example, the adjective 'high' does not have a sharp range (does 100 meters could be counted as 'high'? than how about 500 meters?). Similarly, another adjective 'beautiful' does not provide a precise standard for people to decide to what degree can a person or a thing be described as beautiful. As the phenomenon of fuzzy language has aroused great interest among linguists and scholars, next the author will analyze fuzzy language in detail.
2.1 Definition of Fuzzy Language
It is difficult to define fuzziness as the nature of language itself is fuzzy. Although much effort has been made by a number of researchers abroad and at home, until now, there is no universally agreed definition on fuzzy language and researchers have different opinions about the properties of fuzziness. The term 'fuzzy' is derived from fuzzy mathematics developed by L. A. Zadeh (1965) who suggests that fuzziness can be formally handled in terms of a fuzzy set, a class of entities with a continuum of grades of membership in his 'fuzzy set' theory. Crystal (1991) defines fuzziness as a term derives from mathematics and used by some linguists to refer to the indeterminacy involved in the analysis of a linguistic unit or pattern. Lakoff (1972) and Mc Cawley (1981) also use the word 'fuzzy' to show that there is a certain degree of fuzziness around componential boundaries. Vagueness is one of the synonyms of fuzziness and in broad sense they are in common. The notion of vagueness in language is originated abroad and Pierce is often regarded as the first person to try to define its concept. A proposition is vague where there are possible states of things concerning which it is intrinsically uncertain whether, had they been contemplated by the speaker, he would
