Fuzziness is an important phenomenon in linguistics, and different scholars and professors  probe  into  fuzziness  from  different  aspects.  Recently,  more  and  more researchers study fuzziness in light of pragmatics and lots of achievements have been made abroad and at home. As a major form of mass media, news report exerts a significant role in people's daily  life  and  hence  draws  an  increasing  number  of  researchers'  attention  from academic  field.  And  among  the  various  types  of  news  report,  social  news  attaches people's  life  the most.  People can  gain  information  related  to  their life  both  at  home and  abroad  in  social  news.  As  is  known  to  all,  news  language  requires  objectivity, accuracy  as well as brevity of language use. However, news reporters/writers do not always  use  precise  language  and  they  often  choose  fuzzy  expressions,  which  is  also an effective way to achieve accuracy.       This  thesis  attempts  to  analyze  the  functions  of  fuzzy  language  in  social  news cited  from  the  English  version  of  China  Daily  from  the  perspective  of  pragmatics. Under the theoretical  foundation  of  Grice's  Cooperative  Principle,  this  thesis  tries  to explain  that  the  proper  usage  of  fuzzy  language  in  social  news  will  not  affect  the successful communication between reporter/writers and listeners/readers.
