Kazakh bilingual students learn English in the Chinese circumstances, andChinese is the second language to them.The research finds out Kazakh students’ universal problems and influencing factors inEnglish is a question. Many scholars have made plenty of researches about language transferand also got the results on the aspect, whereas more present studies are focused on thecontrastive analysis of Chinese and English. L3 research on high Kazakh students in Yili israre up till now and the interference of Kazakh in English learning is merely mentioned.Therefore, for the minority students, learning English is a third language acquisition. LearningEnglish (L3) can be influenced by their native language(L1)and Chinese (L2). This thesis isto study mother tongue (L1) transfers from High school Kazakh students who are bilingualand start to learn English as third language. It will try to figure out undiscovered phenomenonand features of learning foreign language under trilingual situation. Hopefully this study couldprovide some inspiration for English teachers to improve their teaching quality. And theresults of the study would be applied into practice to train more English talents for Xinjiang.

2.Literature Review

Language transfer is a complicated phenomenon in second language acquisition. In thispart, the research presents the definition of language transfer. It has two types: positivetransfer and negative transfer. It may occur in many level such as phonetic and phonological,semantic, syntactic and discourse level. The theories of language transfer have beenelaborated from behaviorist and cognitive view. At the beginning, the transfer was put forwardto a behaviorist framework of learning. It was supposed that the learning habits of the firstlanguage would be brought into target language. Linguists carried out contrastive analysis ofthe native language and second language in order to predict when interference would takeplace. Many researchers at home and abroad have made significant achievements in the studyof transfer. In this chapter, the research will present a review of the literature. Firstly, itpresents the definition of the transfer. Secondly, the author discussed the types of transfer.Thirdly, it will present the supporting theories of transfer. Fourthly, a comparison of passivevoice of Kazakh, Chinese and English will be listed.

2.1 Language transfer

The transfer of native language can be traced in all aspects during the proceeds of foreignlanguage learning.“Transfer” was originally derived from Latin word “transferre”, it has used as atechnological term meaning “ to print”, or “to copy” from one surface to another.(WebsterThird New World International dictionary,1986). The meaning of transfer is being developed,“transfer” can be used to mean “to carry-over in one field of study, skill, or effort ofknowledge, or ability acquired in another”(Webster Third New World Internationaldictionary,1986). Generally speaking, previous learning has influence on another sort oflearning.In the 1860s, language transfer was first put forward. During 1940s and 1950s, thediscussion about language transfer took place.
