1.2 Significance of the present study
Present study on the entering tone variation among tri-generation of Chengguan town in Tangyin county has both theoretical and practical significance.First of all, this study is likely to be significant for sociolinguistic research, specifically in the field of language variation. Although many studies have been done in recent two decades, a great number of researches have focused on the characteristics and shuhua phenomena of entering tone instead of entering tone variation of Jin Chinese, and previous researchersseldomconcernsocial variables. Thus, this research will seek the differences of language variation among tri-generation members taking social variables into account, at the same time, it may offer referential data to the development of language variation theory. Secondly,this present research may provide a new perspective on the study of entering tone in Jin dialect by combining traditional dialectology with Experimental Phonetics, it contributes to make a supplement for the traditional dialectology study. Thirdly, this research may give some useful materials for the further study of Jin dialect, and encourage other researchers to do investigations and do researches on Chinese dialects in various places by using method of Experimental phonetics.

Chapter 2 Literature Review
2.0 Introduction
This paper deals with variation of entering finals of a tri-generation family in Tangyin dialect by using sociolinguistic theories, so this chapter will firstly give main relevant concepts and theories, then it will describe the previous studies on phonetic variations and entering finals both at home and abroad. At last, limitations of previous studies will be stated.

2.1 Conceptual Framework
As stated by Robins (2000), phonetically, the term syllablehas frequently been used to refer to a well-organized unit of sequential speech sounds.
