CONCLUSION

This chapter firstly summarizes the main findings of the present study andanswers the research questions put forward in chapter three, then the implications ofthe research are presented, and at last, the limitations of the study and suggestions forthe further research are discussed.The present study adopts genre analysis as the research framework and conductsa contrastive analysis on the moves and strategies employed in the public speechesdelivered by Chinese political leaders in American universities and American politicalleaders in Chinese universities. Due to the unique characteristics of the corpora, theidentification of the moves and strategies is based on the overall communicativepurposes of the speeches which are to enhance mutual understanding, seek for furthercooperation and propose political stands and policies. After a comparison on the movestructures and the word using and discourse layout of two corpora, both similaritiesand differences are found in the speeches.First and foremost, four moves are identified in the speeches withcorresponding strategies under each move: Move 1 Initiating a speech, Move 2Orienting the speech, Move 3 Presenting the speech and Move 4 Concluding thespeech. These four moves are considered as the obligatory ones because of theirappearances in every speech, in spite of the fact that the specific strategies underevery move are differently chosen by the speaker. The following is the move structureof two corpora.
