Minimize Denials of Service (DoS) attacks in wireless ad hoc network
Introduction
Base on 802.11 wirelesses network has expand rapidly in nowadays. It was widely used in military sectors and industrial before, but now it already used in personal local area network. With the convenience of wire free and easy access, while the security of 802.11-based network have been widely studied. In fact it have been point out that it is easy to be attack by denial-of-service (DoS) at media access control (MAC). DoS is an attack activity makes the website server flood in great quantities information of request to reply, consume network bandwidth or system resources, cause network or the system extremely burden as paralyze then stop provide a normal network service. DoS attack has become a kind of familiar hacker behavior currently, it also one of the attack methods which most easily carries out and seriously threatens the safety of network. At present, the attack method of the DoS which aims at Internet contains variety, and still constantly changed. In WLAN it stands by 802.11 protocols, which designed to address the problem during data transmission in wireless environment, it includes access and cut by the network. 802.11 protocol defines two layers, PHY and MAC. In this paper we will discuss the attack at MAC layer which determines the medium used. Obviously, this kind of network very easily suffers the DoS attack. With greatly use of portable equipments, this problem will become more and more outstanding. This project is doing research on DoS attack within wireless Ad Hoc network and proposes a countermeasure to protect the network security.
