New Concepts of LCD-TV Backlight Design with Variable Lamp Pitch

Abstract
A novel backlight technology is presented for thebacklight unit design. The main thinking 代写留学生论文refers to the human eyessensitivity to brightness uniformity to modify the current rule.This approach brings better cost-benefit and yields close picturequality. In the following content, the approach was applied, andCMO 27-inch LCD-TV was illustrated as an example.

1. Introduction
Considering the light source of LCD-TV backlight unit(BLU), because CCFL has higher Optical efficiency and costcheaper, it began the major light source of BLU extensively.Usually in backlight design , the needed CCFL amount shouldconsider the brightness uniformity performance. More CCFLnumbers will get better brightness uniformity. However as thedimension of LCD-TV gets larger and larger, the needed amountof CCFL gets more and more. Therefore the BLU cost is alwaysthe main cost of LCD products. Trying to reduce the amount ofCCFL will be discussed in this paper.Reducing the CCFL number in normal backlight unit willdecrease the brightness uniformity. There are several approachesto help designer get better backlight uniformity, however it doesneed effort to modify the component manufacture processes [1-7].In this paper, the brightness sensitivity of human eyes isconsidered to confirm the suitable uniformity specification, thuspicture quality and cost reduction in designing will be look afterboth sides. In the following research, we will employ CMO 27-inch LCD-TV to evaluate the cost reduction possibility in BLUoptical design and inverter design.

2. Concept
The figure (1) is the sectional sketch of the conventional CCFLs installation in a backlight unit and coming out the relative intensity relation above the sectional sketch. Supposed the meshed
area is the undistinguished area in which the brightness difference can’t be clearly distinguished by human eye. If invariably decreasing CCFL numbers when design, it may face to the bad brightness uniformity situation. The figure (2) says when keeping the same backlight thickness and the pitch betweenCCFLs is too large. Then the “Lamp Mura” phenomenon may befound because of serious brightness difference between lamps.And the figure (3) says when the pitch is too narrow it may makethe edge uniformity get worse. Both of these two cases do reducethe CCFL amount but can‘t be accepted in development processbecause of bad picture quality.
