Smart Portable Display System with Adjustable Color Gamut Control
using Dual LED Light Sources
Abstract
smart portable display system which is mainly used in laptopapplication with the ability of active color gamut adjustment isproposed. To give consideration 英语论文范文toward power-saving, highbrightness and color-reproduction, user can select differentdisplay modes according to their own usage environment andrequirement. In the 15.4” WXGA proto-type sample with twodifferent color-filter spectra we developed, there exists 3 displaymodes which consist of different color gamut and respectivepower consumption, also a super high brightness mode isprovided.
1.Introduction
For improving image quality of the TFT-LCDs, many studiesfocus on color reproduction engineering based on expanding thecolor gamut using LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) backlight [1]and also combining the optimization of the color-filter spectrum[2]. In the field of developing mobile display products, such aslaptop computer or portable media player, with prolonged batterylife is another essential consideration expect the ability of widecolor reproduction. Backlight module with dual backlight designhas been proposed nearly, which is used in 3D mobile displayconsists of upper and lower lightguides [3]. Based on the abovebasic framework of dual lightguides system, we propose a smartportable display system with the ability of active color gamutadjustment. Considering the performance of power-saving, colorreproductionand ultra-high brightness, laptop user can self-switchthe display mode depending on the desired operation conditions.
2. ModulabilityA
Dual Lightguide Plates (DLP) structure with their respectivelight source is shown in Figure 1. Backlight-I is supplied bymultiple color-mixing light source such as RGB LEDs or severalmonochromatic lamps, and Backlight-II is supplied by generalwhite phosphor-type light source, for example, Cold CathodeFluorescent Lamp (CCFL) or white LED (general blue LED +yellow phosphor). Obviously, Backlight-I can provide wider colorgamut than Backlight-II due to its purer ingredients spectraaround the dominant wavelength of Red, Blue and Green. Hence,three different display modes can be selected based on therequirement of each panel users.
