1.1 Background and significance of the present study 研究背景及意义
Nowadays, cultural exchanges play an important role in the https://www.51lunwen.org/translation/ flourishing globalinformation exchange. Intercultural communication has become one of vital tasks fortranslators to introduce China to the world. Chinese classical poetry, which is consideredas treasures of Chinese literature, is full of Chinese traditional cultures. Naturally,continuous attention has been paid to Chinese classical poetry and its translations.Many scholars at home and abroad have spent a long time on analyzingChinese-English poetry translations, but the majority of them make their researches andstudies mainly from literary aspect. And they take cultural gaps and information integritiesas research objects, and operate their researches from aspects of syntax, lexicon andstructure. However, a poem is not merely composed of words and structures. Apart fromthat, sound also plays an important role, simply put, it influences the structure of poem.According to rules of writing poems, meter and rhyme are required to meet therequirements of be harmonious in a Tang poem. On the other hand, sound influencesemotions of readers when a Tang poem is read loudly. But, there are few related researcheson sound in the previous studies. And although some linguists have begun to make somecognitive linguistic studies and researches on Chinese-English poetry translations, most oftheir researches merely follow one single linguistic theory. Meanwhile, they ignore theconnections among poets, translators and readers.The present study will make a detailed study on English translations of theRomantics’ poetry in the prosperous period of Tang from cognitive poetic perspective:firstly, apart from meaning and structure, sound will be taken as one of vital researchobjects. , comparing with previous studies under the guidance of one singlelinguistic theory, theories of image-schema and conceptual metaphor are applied together.Thirdly, the cognitive motivation of translators will be disclosed. Fourthly, the implicitmeanings of poems’ form, and the literal meaning between the poem and its Englishtranslations will be discovered.

1.2 Research questions研究问题
On the basis of the previous studies, the dissertation is expected to answer thesequestions:(1) What are the differences and similarities from the aspects of sound, structure andmeaning in a Tang poem and its English translations?(2) What is the cognitive process of translator?(3) What is the essence of English translation?

1.3 Outline概述
In general, the dissertation has 5chapters.In chapter 1, the background and significance of the present study, research questionsand an outline are showed. In chapter 2, the dissertation makes a diachronic study on thehistorical development of Chinese classical poetry translation. Then, a research on variousschools’ attitudes on poetry translating at home and abroad is showed. Furthermore, underthe guidance of cognitive poetics, theories of image-schema and conceptual metaphor areapplied to make some specific analyses.
