     Chapter One Introduction引言

1.1 Research Background and Theoretical Framework of the Study研究背景和结构
以往的研究对翻译的“红楼梦”作为中国文化的百科全书,“红楼梦描绘的政治制度,社会习俗,宗教哲学,服装,绘画,歌剧和当时的社会生活等诸多方面。Previous Studies on Translations of HongloumengAs an encyclopedia of Chinese culture, Hongloumeng depicts political system, socialconventions, religious philosophy, clothing, painting, operas and many other aspects of thesocial life at that time. Therefore, it offers a wide variety of subjects for scholars andresearchers to study, and many studies focus on a specific area from cultural or linguisticperspectives, such as studies on translation of the novel's appellation, customs, poems, idioms, allusions, puns, couplets, dialogues, proper names, lantern riddles, https://www.51lunwen.org/translation/ chapter headingsand culturally loaded expressions and other aspects. In general studies aboutHongloumeng''s translation mainly concentrate on language, poetry, culture and translationcriteria etc.Ever since the appearances of A Dream of Red Mansions and The Story of the Stone, there appeared extensive studies on these two versions, including numerous journal articlesand academic degree dissertations, focusing on the comparative study of these two versions. These researches, studies and dissertations mainly study the translation of poetry and lyrics, cultural content, book title, language of the characters in the book, aphorisms and idioms, the title of the chapters, the names of the characters and so on by contrasting these twoversions from different theoretical perspectives. According to incomplete statistics, morethan 100 essays on the two complete English translations have been published (Liu Shicong,2004:2-3). And there are also some monographs on the English translations ofHongloumeng, such as 50 Poems in A Dream of Red Mansions: A Comparative Study ofCulturally Indigenous Concepts in the Translation Process: A Cognitive Perspective”, Hisstudy extends the previous investigation into two types: first, observations have beenconducted to those unshared concepts across speech communities; second, whenconceptual mediation is blocked, sets of translation constraints are identified. He focuseson the consequences of an unshared source concept in cognitive translating process. Intranslating, when source concepts are elaborated before being encoded in the targetlanguage, it is called concept mapping (Holmes, 1988/2007b: 83) or conceptual mediation(de Groot, 1997), meaning that they are “converted” to what is conceptually deliverable tothe target speech community, while He Yuanjian prefers to call it "concept-intentionmediation”,because he argues that apart from concepts, translators' intention is involved(He Yuanjian, 2007). This kind of mapping process causes three possible results, i.e.,first,source concepts are convertible or shared by the target speech community; second, they arepartially convertible or shared; third, they are not very or at all convertible or hardly shared. With the last situation arising, conceptual mapping is blocked, which produces a furtherthree possible results, i.e., transplantation, substitution and filtration (He Yuanjian, 2004:37-38). He expands his previous theory which points out four possible results whenconceptual mapping is blocked, i.e., d论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
