摘要:随着中国经济的发展,中国在世界舞台上发挥着日益重要的作用,同时也吸引了越来越多的国外游客来到中国,旅游景区的英语公示语作为对外交流和弘扬中国文化的重要桥梁之一,对树立中国的国际形象发挥着重要的作用。

  对公示语的翻译研究在近年来引起了众多学者的关注,但是对于旅游景区公示语的翻译研究并不多。而且对于景区公示语的翻译研究多从功能翻译理论,顺应论,目的论等角度出发。

  本章主要论述了研究的背景,这项研究的意义,研究的目的、数据和方法和论文的组织。This chapter mainly discusses the background of the study, the significance of thestudy, the purpose of the study, data and method and the organization of the thesis.


  1.1 Background of the Study研究背景
  China has achieved tremendous development in the economy and politics since itadopts the reform and opening-up policy. More and more foreigners come to China totravel, study, work or even settle down in China, especially with the 2008 BeijingOlympic Games, the 2010 Shanghai World Expo and the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Gamesheld in China.https://www.51lunwen.org/translation/  Undoubtedly, China is playing an important role on the international stage.According to the World Tourism Organization, China will be the world's largest touristdestination country in ten years. English versions of tourism public signs have a crucialrole in showing the image of China to the world. They are used to bring conveniencesforeign tourists and provide them with necessary information about the scenic spots andcan be a window to show China's splendid culture and history as well as its modernization.With high quality tourism public signs, foreign tourists can enjoy more convenience andmake better understanding of Chinese culture. Therefore, we badly need high quality C-Etranslation of tourism public signs.However, at present some English versions of tourism pubic signs are far fromsatisfactory. There are many translating problems and errors, such as spelling errors,grammatical errors, pragmatic failures, Chinglish etc, which may lead to communicationfailure and misunderstandings, give primary English learners negative effect and evendamage China's image in the world. To understand the image of an era, a society, acountry or a city, we can get the first impression from their pragmatic level (何自然,1997). Zhao Xiang (赵湘, 2006a) suggests that researchers of public sign translationshould attach greater importance to employing relevant pragmatic theories. What's more,due to the difference in ideology, culture, language and social systems between China andEnglish-speaking countries, if the information is not translated properly, what seemsappropriate in Chinese will be improper in the western countries. In order to fill the gap,appropriate translation strategies should be suggested as guidance for translators.Therefore, the C-E translation of tourism public signs deserves deeper study.


  
  1.2 Significance of the Study研究意义
  The significance of the study can be divided into three folds:In the first place, with more and more foreign tourists coming to China for traveling,the C-E translation of tourism public signs plays an essential part in the cross-culturalcommunication. It not only gives convenience to foreign tourists in eating, shopping,traveling and boarding, but also serves as a window for showing our international imageto the outside the world and lets more and more foreign tourists know about China.What's more, some international tourist attractions in China greatly need a good languageenvironment to guide foreign tourists in cross-cultural communication.
