Chapter1 Introduction引言

1.1 Background of the Research
The twentieth century has been called the “age of translation” or “reproduction” (Newmark 3).However in the prosperity of the translation field,“there have long existed not only greatimbalance among the translation perspectives but also informal, empirical and unsystematictranslation theories” (谭载喜 8). Also, Wolfram Wilss states that present translation theoriesinclude “a mess of uncoordinated statements” (Wilss 11). And “most of the theories that havebeen produced to date are in reality little more than prolegomena to …a general translationtheory” (Holmes 77). Therefore, “we really need a theory that gives us a positive return on ourtask” (G. Rose 66) . The statement of Bassnett and Lefevere marks the shift of emphasis intranslation studies and formal proposal of “the cultural turn” for the very first time: “Once upona time, https://www.51lunwen.org/translation/  the questions that were always being asked were ‘How can translation beentaught?’…Now, the questions have changed. The object of study has been refined; what isstudied is the text embedded in its net work of both source and target cultural signs and in thisway Translation Studies has been able to utilize the linguistic approach and to move out beyondit” (Bassnet and Lefevere 123). “The cultural turn ‘discovered’ the translator and made thetranslator’s subjectivity as well as cultural and aesthetic tendencies become subjects fortranslation researchers” (穆雷 诗怡 13). Owing to the feature of the contemporary background,“Eco-translatology ,an ecological approach to translation studies or translation studies from anecological perspective” (胡庚申, “解读” 1) correspondingly emerged and it recalls scholarsattention to the dynamic role of the translators. Eco-translatology attempts to employ creativelythe correlation and flexibility between the natural law of “survival of the fittest” and the humanbehavior, the translation activities, to expound the essence, process, criteria, principle andmethod of translation on the fundamental basis of an approach to translation as adaptation andselection. About ten years from 2001 to 2009 has witnessed its emergence to integratedevelopment.Since the birth of the Eco-translatolagy, it has developed into a very influential translation theoryin the world, which broadens scholars’ horizon and brings a new perspective in translationcriteria. Many scholars at home and abroad are dedicated to the consummation in the first andsecond International Symposium on Eco-translatology . And its validity in the applied translationhas been verified by the comprehensive study of the English version of Six Chapters of aFloating Life by Lin Yutang, Harry Potter by Teng Yue, Analects of Confucius by GuHongming, and the law of natural selection. However, the theory which in its developing stagestill needs perfection. First, to justify the analogy, the isomorphism, correlation, and resemblancebetween the translational environment and the ecological system is far from completeness yet.Second, translation is the transformation of different languages, and language is the carrier andcontainer of culture; culture is the deposit of human activities, and human is part of theecological world. Consequently, the study of the internal relationship and c论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
